Spooners: Cookies Policy
1. Why do we have a Cookies Policy?
1.1 We have a Cookies Policy to explain to you what cookies and similar technologies we use, why we use them, and what you need to do if you want to restrict, block, disable or delete them. Our Cookies Policy is part of, and is subject to, our Privacy policy which explains how we use personal data.
1.2 A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers placed on your computer, tablet, mobile phone, or other device (“device“) when you access or use our website. There are also technologies similar to cookies (e.g. clear gifs) that do the same. Data is collected because it can be necessary to a website’s operation, to assess and/or improve its performance, and/or to provide a personalised experience.
1.3 Our website uses cookies to distinguish you from other users of our website. This helps us to provide you with a better experience when you browse our website and also allows us to improve our site. We also might use tracking pixels in our emails so we know how to improve our email content. By accessing and/or using our website and downloading images in our emails (see below) you confirm that you accept the terms of this Cookies Policy.
2. Cookies that we use
2.1 We may use the following cookies, and the specific types of cookies we use are set out in the table below:
Necessary cookies. These are cookies that are required for the operation of our website. They include, for example, cookies that enable you to log into secure areas of our website, use a shopping cart or make use of e-billing services. These can’t be switched off.
Analytical or performance cookies. If we set these, they allow us to recognize and count the number of visitors and to see how visitors move around our website when they are using it. This helps us to improve the way our website works, for example, by ensuring that users are finding what they are looking for easily. These cookies are only set if you consent .
Functionality cookies. These are used to recognise you when you return to our website. This enables us to remember your preferences (for example, your choice of language or region, your choice of font). These cookies are only set if you consent.
Marketing cookies. These cookies record your visit to our website, the pages you have visited and the links you have followed. We will use this information to make our website and the advertising displayed on it more relevant to your interests. We may also share this information with third parties for this purpose. These cookies are only set if you consent.
Targeting These cookies may be set through our site by our advertising partners. They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other sites. They do not store directly personal information, but are based on uniquely identifying your browser and internet device. If you do not allow these cookies, you will experience less relevant advertising. These cookies are only set if you consent.

3. Use of tracking pixels in emails
3.1
Sometimes, if we send emails to you, they may contain a single “web beacon pixel”. Not all our emails do this. However these web beacon pixels are only activated if you choose to download the images within them. If you download the images in our emails when we have used a web beacon pixel, the pixel tells us if our emails are opened, how many times, and tells us if you have clicked through to links within that email. We then use this information to:
Work out which emails our readers find more interesting;
How engaged our readers are with our products;
3.2 When you delete the email, the pixel will be deleted. If you do not wish the pixel to be downloaded to your device, you don’t need to download the images in the email and the default setting is to view the email in plain text only.
4. Choices about cookies
4.1 You can choose which cookies we can set by clicking on the button(s) in our cookie pop-up notice which shows the following options:
